Reading and Writing Workshop includes the following elements:

  • Connection - Connecting the teaching point to a past strategy.
  • Mini-Lesson - Teach a strategy lesson that lasts about 15 minutes.
  • Active Engagement - Students practice the strategy with a partner.
  • Practicing and Conferencing - Students write/read and teacher conferences with individuals or small groups.
  • Mid Workshop Teaching Point - Teach or demonstrate a strategy that the teacher notices students needing or that will enhance what the teacher has observed.
  • Sharing - Share a student's work or experience that occurred during workshop that supports the teaching point.
  • Link - Link the strategy to writing/reading beyond today's lesson.
